Egyptian actress Dina Fouad refuses to recognise vigilantes in Egypt, telling Arabstoday in an exclusive statement that citizen arrests' should only be made on genuine criminals. Egypt’s prosecutor-general introduced judicial policing in March to allow people to arrest anyone found committing a crime, in an attempt to curb the country’s rising crime rate. The star said: "Too many people are abusing their power. Arrests should only be made on people who commit real crimes, like kidnapping and stealing, not trivial things, which is what’s happening right now.” Dina has finished shooting scenes in Egypt for the new drama series Roots, and will travel to Beirut to complete filming. In Roots, the actress plays the role of Mervat, a woman who attempts to escape her past, which soon catches up to her. The series is expected to air on Egyptian television later this month.
