Developing new systems for controlling traffic in Egypt is one of the five components of transport sustainability project, funded by UNDP and GEF, Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmi.
In his speech delivered by undersecretary of Environment Ministry Mona Kamal on his behalf during the inauguration of 14 electronic traffic signs in Downtown by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Fahmi said the new project aimed at reducing carbon emissions, rationalizing the use of energy, and helping in alleviating the global warming.
The project is carried out by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with Cairo Governorate, and funded by UNDP.
Costing EGP 6.5 million, the project provides drivers with information about vacant places in ten different parking lots in Downtown to help them head to them and avoid wasting fuel particularly during rush hours.
