The European Union (EU) on Thursday decided to extend for additional six months its sanctions against three Libyan officials who are accused of obstructing the country’s peace process and reconciliation efforts.
Pointing to the “continuing instability and gravity of the situation in Libya”, the EU Council announced on 28 September the renewal for six months of sanctions against Agila Saleh, president of the Libyan Council of Deputies in the House of Representatives, Khalifa Ghweil, prime minister and defense minister of the internationally unrecognized General National Congress (GNC), and Nuri Abu Sahmain, the GNC’s president.
