Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky died on Wednesday aged 55 in London following a long illness, the Vienna State Opera said.
"This is a very, very sad day for all of us... With Dmitri Hvorostovsky we lost an outstanding singer and a real friend," director Dominique Meyer said in a statement.
