Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Romania's Simona Halep reached the fourth round of the 2017 Miami Open Tennis Championship.
The Spaniard, playing his 1,000th ATP match with Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 0-6, 6-2, 6-3, suffered just the 14th 0-6 set of his career, claiming just 33% of first serve points won and making a string of unforced errors.
World No. 31 Kohlschreiber, 33, was unstoppable in the early stages and romped through the opening set in just 21 minutes. It was the first time Nadal had failed to win a game in the first set of an ATP Tour encounter since 2008.
But the fifth seed was undaunted and fought back in determined fashion to claim the 822nd win of his wonderful career and a last-16 tie against France's Nicolas Mahut, who beat Guido Pella 6-4 6-3.
No.3 seed Simona Halep took less than an hour to polish off qualifier Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-3, 6-0 with an aggressive performance that left the Romanian very pleased.
Japan's Kei Nishikori came through a tough test against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (7/2), 6-7(5/7) 6-1. Nishikori will face Argentine Federico Del Bonis, who beat Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6 (7/5), 6-1.
In another women's match, Australia's Samantha Stosur defeat Chinese Shuai Peng 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to reach the 4th round of Miami open. Stosur will face with Simona Halep today.
