To honour His Highness Sayyid Kais bin Tariq Al Said, one the most passionate golfers and his contributions to the game, Ghala Golf Club organised one of the largest single Stableford tournament. Competitors, spectators and patrons from all around Oman witnessed a historic event as 157 golfers teed off with shotgun start, swinging their irons to support His Highness Kais’s zeal for golf.
His Highness Sayyid Azaan bin Kais Al Said and His Highness Sayyid Sami bin Kais Al Said attended the event to celebrate their late father’s passion for the game. The event saw a mix of different nationalities on the green, competing with immense enthusiasm. Julian Chong held the third position on count back, with a score of 40 points while the second place went to Bharath Gopal with a score of 42 points. Emerging victorious, Badar Al Amri arose as the over all winner with a stunning score of 44 points.
Leon Sassen, the General Manager Golf World, noted: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players who supported us and made the Kais Golf Celebration 2017 a huge success. We have created history together with the largest one-day golf tournament ever to be held in Oman and it would have been impossible without the participants. This truly is a fitting honour to His Highness Sayyid Kais bin Tariq.”
Following the tournament, an award ceremony was held at the club, featuring a speech by Ghala Golf Club’s Captain Mike Rennardson.
In the junior’s category, Aiman Al Busaidi, was hailed as the winner, followed by Osama Al Mahrooqi and Ammar Al Wahaibi. This not only showcases the interest in the game but also proves Oman’s rising talent in Golf. The longest driver on the 13th women and men’s category were Jacki Francis and His Highness Sayyid Sami bin Kais Al Said.
