Britain's ITV says it has ordered a second season of its mystery drama series Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman as police detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller. No details about the drama's sophomore season plot line were immediately released. Season 1 ended with Ellie's husband confessing to the murder of local schoolboy Danny Latimer. Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, who played Danny's parents Beth and Mark, will also return to their roles for Season 2, alongside Arthur Darvill as local vicar Paul Coates. "We're delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we're remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops," Steve November, ITV's director of drama, said in a statement Monday. "Suffice to say [show creator] Chris [Chibnall] has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series." "The reaction to Broadchurch from U.K. viewers has been incredible," added producer Jane Featherstone. "So, we'd like viewers to enjoy the new series knowing as little as possible about what's to come and for the story to unfold in real time." Season 1 of the show aired in the United States last year on BBC America. An Americanized version of the series, with Tennant reprising his role, is now in the works. It has been re-titled Gracepoint.
