The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced its intention to urgently send an emergency team to Yemen to control the cholera epidemic.
During a meeting of the Member States of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, Yemeni Minister of Health Dr. Nasser Baoum explained the health situation in his country, especially with regard to the outbreak of watery diarrhea, stressing that the Yemeni government is doing its best to contain the disaster with support from the GCC countries and international organizations.
He pointed out that the Yemeni Ministry of Health set up reception centers for these cases, provided medicines and medical supplies in all governorates where these cases were reported and sent epidemiological monitoring teams, in addition to awareness and health campaigns through various media.
The Yemeni Health Minister called on the WHO to provide more support to help his country to face this disaster.WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan and Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Mahmoud Fikri participated in the meeting.
