Italian fine jeweller Marco Bicego is preparing to open his first New York shop-in-shop in September at Bloomingdale’s flagship. “Bloomingdale’s 59th Street is a mega destination for luxury brands,” Bicego said during a visit to Dallas. “The amount of tourists that go through there is intense.” The approximately 120-square-foot boutique, which is not leased, will offer selections from the 10 collections Bicego has created since he introduced his 18-karat gold collection in 2000. The son of a jeweler, Bicego crafts contemporary jewellery with fluid lines and hand wrought details at his workshop in northern Italy. His latest one-of-a-kind showpieces featuring raw, colour-saturated gems are ticketed upwards of $90,000, but the typical retail sweet spot is $2,700. Bicego’s styles are sold in 1,000 doors worldwide including 454 in the US. Bicego, who visited Dallas to meet with executives of Neiman Marcus, is launching his multi-strand “Diamond Cairo” collection exclusively at the luxury retailer. “They’re always asking us to add diamonds,” he noted. Bicego’s sales are up about 15 percent this year, and he’s adding doors with strategic partners like Chow Sang Sang Jewellery, which intends to open at least three shop-in-shops in Hong Kong this fall, he noted. “We have an opportunity to create a worldwide brand,” Bicego asserted. His flagship in Verona, Italy, is about 20 miles from headquarters in Trissino, and Bicego also has stores in Tokyo, Budapest, Mykonos and Rethymnon, Greece, and two within Harvey Nichols in England.
