A luxury resort in Germany that pitches itself as the most modern facility in Europe has been named the Destination Spa of the Year.
Lanserhof Tegernsee, located south of Munich on the edge of Lake Tegernsee, took the title at the 2015 World Spa and Wellness Award in London recently, just a year after opening its doors in January 2014.
Unlike recreational and leisure resorts, guests of Lanserhof Tegernsee receive personalized health plans with the help of an on-site physician, including two medical examinations, abdominal check-ups, detox drainage procedures, detox body wrap and bath, and a urine analysis.
One of the pillars of the Lans Med Concept is the belief that a person’s energy comes from the digestive tract.
Viewed as the ‘root system of the human being,’ doctors and therapists treat intestines as the key to healing the immune system.
Incidentally, spa treatment that centers on the gut was identified as one of the top 10 wellness trends identified by Spafinder earlier this year. Though not new, the report foresees that the focus on gut health will become increasingly popular among spas this year.
Cleansing, de-acidification and detoxification processes can include everything from peelings, baths, body wraps and massages -- because detoxification can also be achieved through the skin, claim the founders -- as well as nutrition plans.
In addition to classic spa services like massages and dermatherapy, the resort also features an 18-hole golf course which boasts one of the highest tee-off areas in Germany; cycling and walking trails in summer; and skiing and Nordic walking in winter.
