The Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry said on Sunday that 2,655 encroachments on the Nile River were removed since launching a national campaign to protect the river.
The campaign, which was launched by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi in January 5, targets removing 50,399 violations on the Nile River's banks.
In statements, Moghazi said that the government will strictly apply a plan to remove violations on the Nile River, adding that the campaign targets all governorates and water streams.
He further called on the citizens to remove violations by themselves so as to avoid legal problems.
