Abu Dhabi - WAM

All sources of energy, with a particular focus on electricity, require water during the production process. Interdependently working together, water and energy rely on one another to ensure that water is available for not only the most basic industrial needs, but for human consumption as well. Due to both the electricity production and water desalination processes dependence on co-generation, the link between water and energy in Abu Dhabi is far greater. Furthermore, the hot and arid climate exacerbates the demand for both resources, creating an incredibly high demand. Fozeya Al Mahmoud, EAD’s Director of Environmental Outreach, said: “We are encouraged to see that many public and private sector organizations are already taking the necessary steps to reduce their excessive consumption of both water and energy. However, we know there is potential to do so much more. For World Water Day, we encourage our valued partners across Abu Dhabi to consult our guide to sustainable water use, entitled ‘Protecting our Shared Resource – Sustainable Water Use for Organisations,’ which can be accessed on our website www.ead.ae. This publication, available in both Arabic and English, is an important tool that can help all organisations further develop their own water strategy and implement water-efficiency actions.” “WWF’s Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement, uniting action on climate change. Earth Hour is simple; each March in more than 154 countries across the world, the lights are switched off between 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm. This year and in coordination with the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF (EWS-WWF), we call on our partners not only to participate but to seriously consider how they can make their lives more sustainable after Earth Hour. One of the easiest and most impactful ways to do this is to switch to energy-efficient lighting at home and in the office,” Al Mahmoud noted. As public and private sector organisations across the Emirate embrace water and energy efficient practices and environmentally sustainable business models, the EAD is committed to serving as a resource and further encouraging and actively engaging the larger community in order to implement environmentally friendly initiatives.
