Manama - BNA

Bahrain and Sudan have today signed a key agreement, giving the green light for "Khairat Al-Bahrain" agricultural project to go ahead. Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf sealed the deal with Sudanese Investment Minister, Head of Higher Investment Authority, Dr. Mustafa Othman Ismael.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs and Marine Resources Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Northern Governorate Wali Dr. Ibrahim Al-Khedhr and Sudanese Ambassador to Bahrain Abdulla Ahmed Othman.
Located in the Northern Governorate, the 42 thousand–hectare investment land was granted to Bahrain by the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir to be allocated for farming and animal husbandry projects as part of efforts to meet the needs of the local and regional needs in agricultural products.
Khalaf hailed the initiative which is part of joint cooperation to achieve food security, stressing the pivotal role of Sudan as a key supplier of animal products for Bahrain. Dr. Ismael stressed the viability of the land plot allotted to Bahrain, located near two other key agricultural projects owned by Emarati Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Otaib and Saudi Shaikh Sulaiman Al-Rajhi.
