Divers of the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF) have lifted a sunken dhow used for cattle transportation, said Walid Al-Shatti, chief of the team, on Sunday.
Al-Shatti told KUNA a crane and a trailer were used for lifting the 60-ton wooden ship at Al-Doha port. The divers labored for three days to make the ship float, before being towed to Al-Ushairej beach where it would be repaired.
Necessary precautions were taken to avert any serious contamination of the sea environment, Al-Shatti said, noting that some sheep on board of the huge vessel had perished when it sank.
He gave no further details as when and how the large ship had sunk.
