As part of its efforts to find natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes Dubai Municipality has come up with a new idea to breed a kind of fish in various parts of Dubai.Hisham Abdulrahman Al Yahya, Pest Control section at the Public Health Services Department of Dubai Municipality said Dubai Municipality has been keen on developing and introducing various kind of pest control methods that do not harm humans and environment. According to him his section has started a project to breed fish named Aphanius sp. that voraciously feeds on mosquito larvae.He said adult fish has been collected and distributed to farms irrigation tanks in the rural areas and placed in water collections throughout Dubai. The objectives of this project is to reduce the use of pesticide and safeguard the environment, he pointed. Source: WAM
