Algeria has "always" been "anxious to honour its international commitment in protecting and preserving environment, the secretary general of the Foreign Affairs ministry, Abdelhamid Senouci Bereksi, said Monday in Algiers.
Algeria's commitments are in line with the international agreements it has signed" regarding environment protection, the Foreign Affairs ministry's official said in an opening address at an international workshop providing information on the financing methods of the Global Environment Fund (GEF).
Bereksi said there is a "very developed" legal arsenal on environment protection and an appropriate institutional and regulatory framework.
He underlined Algeria's efforts in the field, especially those relating to sustainable development.
He mentioned the fight against desertification and the deterioration of the soil through reforestation programmes and agricultural land upgrading schemes, promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency by 2030, "consolidation of rational ecological management" of wastes and other chemical products.
