On Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 7:30 PM, AICafe invite you to a discussion with Palestinian author and activist, Simon Awad, on behalf of the Environmental Education Centre working towards an ECO Palestine. This talk will look at environmental advocacy and sustainability in Occupied Palestine. It will outline the challenges Palestinians are facing with regard to building, relating to, and managing a Green Palestine under occupation, in addition to looking at grassroots efforts and trends highlighting sustainable change. The environmental education centre (EEC) is a non-profit non-governmental centre that is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). Established in 1998 and formally registered on 2010. The EEC tackles all environmental issues and their effects relevant aspects of social, cultural and economic life, in addition to their contribution to the sustainable development of society. They work to protect and preserve Palestine's natural environment with programs working to clean and empty all solid, liquid, and industrial remnants. Working to raise awareness among Palestinians about environmental issues, The ECC equips youngsters with the knowledge and skills needed to preserve the available resources and to play a pivotal role in changing behaviours towards a cleaner Palestine. Simon Awad is the executive director of the Environmental Education Centre of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. He is active on the national, regional and International levels, having served as a, and sometimes the only, Palestinian representative in a variety of international environmental organizations and agencies. He has written several scientific books, with the most notable being, "Birds of Palestine." Simon is a member of the Palestinian national committee for raising environmental awareness and education. He is a promoter of the national voluntary movements and campaigns, and in 2001, Simon founded the Annual Olive Harvest Festival. Please join for this informative evening! The AIC is a joint Palestinian-Israeli activist organization engaged in dissemination of information, political advocacy and grassroots activism. The AICafè is a political and cultural café open on Tuesday and Saturday night from 7pm until 10pm. It is located in the Alternative Information Centre in Beit Sahour, close to Suq Sha'ab (follow the sign to Jadal Centre). We have a small library with novels, political books and magazines. We also have a number of films in DVD copies and AIC publications which critically analyze both the Palestinian and Israeli societies as well as the conflict itself.
