Professor of Geophysical Exploration at the Desert Research Center Safi al-Din Mohamad warned that the Assiut province will be submerged with floods in 2020, which would have a devastating effect on the province and beyond, calling for sufficient funds to make use of these floods and avoid their destructive power. In a lecture delivered at a symposium themed "Supporting and promoting tourism in Assiut Province", Mohamad said he conducted studies with a group of scientists at the University of Western Michigan, using satellite data to assess the rainfall amounts on the Eastern Desert, and they confirmed that there are high probability of floods there
