Snow ploughs work during a blizzard
Amman - Petra

During the past three days, different state bodies worked in harmony to deal with the blizzard that hit the Kingdom. The Armed Forces, public security, civil defense and Amman municipality performed their roles in an integrated manner.
Besides their main mission of safeguarding borders and preventing smuggling, various units of the Armed forces helped citizens nationwide, with their vehicles opening main and sub roads inside the capital Amman and in all of the Kingdom's governorates. They also dealt with different kinds of cases, including transporting patients, pregnant women and carrying out rescue operations, in addition to helping in reopening the vital airport road.
The Public Security Department's media centre said Saturday that all roads in the Kingdom are open, except some subways in the Ajloun governorate and Jerash where heavy snow had accumulated. Also, the Ma'in Spa road in Madaba governorate is closed because of landslides, it added.
The statement also said that the Tafilah governorate and Petra district roads are closed while the main roads in Karak and Ma'an governorates are open, except in Ras Al Naqab due to snow accumulation there.
The Civil Defense Department called on the citizens not to leave homes or use vehicles to avoid expected freezing during late night hours and early tomorrow. It also called on Jordanians to use safe heating methods and heed other safety instructions.
Greater Amman Municipality Mayor's advisor, Baker Abadi, said the municipality has opened 94 percent of Amman's roads, while some sub roads are closed. The municipality's vehicles cannot enter certain roads but the work is underway to solve this problem, he added.
Abadi said the municipality's personnel will start a campaign to clear the capital of any accumulated snow or debris, in addition to cataloguing the damage caused by the blizzard. A committee has been formed for this purpose.
