Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra said Saturday night in New York "the goals of sustainable development will lead to a world that makes possible the effective protection of rights, inclusive participation of all and shared prosperity."
"We are bet the new sustainable development goals will lead to a world that makes possible the effective protection of rights, inclusive participation of all and shared prosperity especially in poor areas where live more than 40% of the most deprived persons," stressed the minister, who was speaking during the general debate of the 69th regular session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
"The celebration in 2015 of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations should be the occasion for a renewed commitment of all member states to restoring vigour, effectiveness, and credibility to multilateralism," Lamamra added.
The Minister said the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement had expressed at the 17th Ministerial Conference held in May 2014 in Algiers, the relevance of the right to development and the urgent need to eradicate poverty, identified as a challenge and a central goal of the post-2015 development agenda. "
At the United Nations, Algeria, which coordinates the working group of the non-aligned countries on the revitalization of the General Assembly "will continue its efforts to ensure that this body, the most representative of the international system, takes back its prerogatives," the Foreign minister added.
In this context, strengthening cooperation and multifaceted partnership between the African Union and the United Nations should be encouraged, particularly the settlement of many conflicts and crises that continue to cast a pall over Africa and delay completion of decolonization, said Lamamra.
