The royal association of “Nature Protection” and “Ayla Oasis” Development Company organize the largest non-traditional awareness event for all of the royal family in Jordan in Aqaba city on Wednesday 3/5/2017 from 5 pm to 7 pm. This year events came under the slogan “A safe planet for migratory birds and humans” in line with UN call to protect human and nature from great threats.
Aqaba area is the second most important path of bird migration in the world, where more than half a million bird of 198 different species travel through it. Royal association of “Nature Protection” with Aqaba Special Economic Zone and Aqaba Water Company run Aqaba Bird Observatory, and the association is working to put it on the international touristic map as one of the environmental tourism products related to bird surveillance in the Region.
International Day of Migratory Birds was first celebrated in 2006 as an awareness campaign based on the International Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Water birds (IWA), then this campaign developed to be one of the global celebrations of environment and biological diversity. This occasion raises awareness about migratory birds and their role in the environment, along with their role in increasing eco-tourism, which helps the economy.
This celebration is held in “Ayla” project, one of Aqaba major touristic projects. This project aims to develop Aqaba’s waterfront, in order to activate economy and tourism sectors in elegant and creative ways. The celebration includes a group of entertainment activities for all ages such as, flying kites, drawing on bird-shaped paints, painting faces, environmental games and contests with prizes.
