Head of the Red Sea Harbors Authority Hisham Abu Sena said Monday that representatives of the authority will meet with minister of environment to discuss safety procedures while unloading coal at harbors.
Addressing the Egypt's first conference on coal titled "The use of coal as alternative energy and its role in enhancement of the economy", Abu Sena said the authority, which oversees nine harbors, held a series of consultations with environment experts and civil society representatives to assess the environmental impact of using coal as a source of energy.
He made it clear that the regulations announced by the environment ministry in April would ensure a safe usage of coal.
Abu Sena also made it clear that harbors are currently ready for receiving coal consignments and that cooperation has started with the companies of shipping, transportation and importat to ensure that they work according to the set regulations.
