His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a resolution regulating activities of pest control firms in the country. The resolution stipulates that pest control companies must obtain a license from local authorities to practice their activities. The firms are prohibited from using banned or unregistered pesticides and in order to be granted a license a pest control technician is required to have a diploma or degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of public health, environmental health, agricultural engineering and biology. “We can now be sure the companies we are dealing with are registered and that the pest control is effective,” said Shirley, a resident.
