The annual Earth Hour, considered the largest environmental awareness initiative, is organised to raise awareness about global warming and climate change around the world as part of its commitment to expand participation in the efforts to reduce global warming.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has directed all staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, its affiliated offices and UAE diplomatic missions abroad, to participate in this international event, as well as to support global efforts to meet the challenges and the passive effects caused by global warming and climate change, thus contributing to the well-being of the present generation without compromising the welfare of future generations.
In response to the directives of Sheikh Abdullah, the ministry’s missions throughout the world turned their lights off yesterday from 8:30 to 9:30 pm.
The Ministry’s participation in the event, organised with the participation of one billion people around the world, sought to spread awareness about the importance of rationing energy consumption through turning off lights and electrical devices for one hour.
