Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water met today with Coordinator of Sub-regional Office of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for the Gulf Cooperation Council States and Yemen, Adrianus Spijkers.
This meeting came in the framework of discussing ways of common cooperation so as to benefit from the potential and expertise of the FAO in the fields of agriculture, livestock and fisheries in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the ministry for promoting food security and sustainable water security, as well as the prevention of agricultural pests and infectious animal diseases.
Dr. Rashid commended the efforts exerted by FAO and its activities in all environmental areas, which seeks to promote agricultural development at the local and global levels.
He also stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Environment and Water to cooperate with the organisation within its directives to implement studies and research in related fields.
During the meeting, two sides discussed a number of issues related to projects and training courses under taken by the ministry with the Sub-regional Office of FAO in agriculture and water sectors and also ministry's hosting of a number of WHO experts to discuss cooperation in agriculture and fisheries.
Dr. Rashid extended thanks and appreciation to Mr. Adrianus Spijkers, stressing ministry's keenness on the continuity of communication, coordination and cooperation with the organisation to achieve the objectives of the parties.
For his part, Mr. Spijkers praised the Ministry of Environment and Water for sponsoring the training workshop organised by the sub-regional office of the FAO on the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification.
