Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoun Abbassi announced on Sunday that power generation at the country's first nuclear power plant in the Southern port city of Bushehr is stable and continues with no problem, adding that the plant is moving ahead to reach its full power generation capacity."After the initial launch, the power plant joined the national grid and it has since then been stable in generating electricity and has encountered no problem in this regard," Abbassi said in an article released by the official website of the Iranian government on Sunday. Abbasi further stated that Bushehr is moving on its normal track "to full operation and standard tests are underway". Bushehr power plant joined the national power grid on September 3 with an initial 60mw power generation capacity, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced at the time. The power plant will gradually reach its utmost power for the generation of 1,000mw of electricity. The statement also said that the Iranian authorities will continue their tests to ensure that the power plant is in full harmony with the national power grid.Iran signed a deal with Russia in 1995, according to which the plant was originally scheduled for completion in 1999. However, the project was repeatedly delayed by the Russian side due to the intense pressure exerted on Moscow by the United States and its western allies. Russia finally completed construction of the plant last summer. On October 26, 2010, Iran started injecting fuel into the core of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the initial phase of launching the nuclear reactor. The facility operates under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
