Senior officials from the UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, FANR, have participated in a meeting to gain the benefits of sharing international experience in nuclear regulation with several thousand representatives of the nuclear energy industry.
The 28th annual Regulatory Information Conference, RIC, was hosted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, NRC, from 8th-10th March in Bethesda, Maryland, in the United States.
FANR and the NRC agreed to sign an arrangement that will provide UAE entities with access to a family of radiation protection and assessment software tools for improving and ensuring the safety of radioactive materials.
Led by Director-General Christer Viktorsson, the FANR delegation also met with NRC officials and commissioners to extend FANR’s partnership with NRC, which supports FANR programmes in training, technical support, and knowledge management.
The FANR delegations also included Chief Scientist Farouk El Tawila, Salah Al Hashimi, Director of the Government Communication Department, and Shaima Al Mansoori, Director of Education and Training.
"The RIC offers an outstanding opportunity for FANR to describe its progress to our international colleagues and to benefit from their experience as we transition FANR from a start-up organisation to a sustainable agency that helps to protect the UAE for generations," said Mr. Viktorsson.
