Kuwait stressed the need to join international nuclear security conventions. Representing the State of Kuwait, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) had held some lengthy side meetings on the fringes of the 55th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference which endedon Friday, said KISR Director, Naji Al-Mutairi. The meetings focused on the effects of the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster and essential precautions to attain security on the domestic and international levels. KISR also attended as an observer the Cooperative Agreement for Arab States in Asia for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (ARASIA). He hailed the agreement, saying it was one that aims to build national capabilities in the field and ensures a peaceful use of nuclear technology for development purposes. KISR has also cooperated with the IAEA on a number of projects, and intends to continue this paretnership, he added .
