Russia’s Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation head Sergey Kiriyenko on Monday said that the company works closely with Tehran on Fordo nuclear reactor's restructuring project.
Moscow implements all international obligations under the final joint action plan, Kiriyenko told the 59th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s General Conference.
Kiriyenko has called for refraining from attempts to politicize the work of IAEA, TASS reported.
"International relations are going through a hard time now. The reasons of that are well-known. However, international cooperation continues in the routine mode in the sphere of nuclear energy," Kiriyenko said.
"It is very important that IAEA maintains the professional character of its activity. We are categorically against attempts to politicize the agency," he added.
Talking about nuclear energy, Kiriyenko stressed that this is a strategic sphere with long life-cycles that defines ensuring security as its top priority. IAEA activity "should not depend on situational fluctuations of the political environment," he said.
On July 14, a deal was agreed between Iran and the six negotiators (P5+1), that is to guarantee the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the West and the United Nations giving up sanctions.
The P5+1 is the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France - plus Germany.
Iran says it needs nuclear power to generate electricity, but Western powers led by the United States claimed Tehran's eventual aim is to create nuclear weapons.
