Tropical storm Gordon is expected to become a hurricane by week's end, but will not make landfall, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday. The storm. with wind speeds of 40 mph, was about 585 miles east of Bermuda, moving northeast about 14 mph at 4 a.m. EDT, the NHC said. Gordon is expected to intensify slightly and will stay in open waters, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The storm will be near the Azores in about four days, the NHC forecast said. Meanwhile, tropical storm Hector was expected to become a remnant later Thursday, the NHC said.
