China’s Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged the State of Qatar to play a positive role that would help in the climate change negotiations. During his meeting here yesterday with HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, the chairman of Qatar’s Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) and also the chairman of Climate Change Conference (COP18), Li said that being the host of the Climate Change Conference after a few months, Qatar is expected to play a positive role in getting a tangible outcome from the negotiations on the Bali Road Plan. The Chinese Vice Premier also called on the developed countries to significantly reduce carbon emissions and to fulfill their pledge on providing more funding and assistance with regard to technology transfer. He reiterated that the international community must work together to tackle climate change through the restructuring of their economies, strengthening the environment protection and developing low-carbon economies. He called on world states to adhere to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, especially the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibility (CBDR) and also urged energy producers and consumers to work closely together, to ensure the stability of the energy market. He also suggested a long-term Chinese-Qatari co-operation in the field of energy. HE al-Attiyah said he was determined to strengthen Qatar’s contacts with China with regard to climate change as well as to help all parties to address this issue, and to push forward the Qatari-Chinese co-operation in the field of energy. HE al-Attiyah will chair the eighth conference of the signing parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Doha at the end of November. l Chairman of Qatar’s Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, also met here yesterday with China’s Minister of Supervision, Ma Wen. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest with an emphasis on administrative control and transparency-related issues. Both sides, also reviewed bilateral ties and ways of enhancing them. The meeting was attended by HE Qatar’s Ambassador to China, Hamad bin Mohamed al-Khalifa and HE al-Attiyah’s accompanying delegation.
