Chevrolet has announced a price reduction for its extended-range electric vehicle, the Volt. With the new model year, prices will start at €38,000 (including VAT) in Germany. "The lower price and cost savings from driving on electricity provide Volt owners a unique balance of technology, capability and cost of ownership," said Thomas Sedran, President and Managing Director, Chevrolet Europe. "The latest Volt model will offer the same impressive list of features as before, plus Chevrolet’s new MyLink connected radio." In August this year, Chevrolet lowered the price for the new Volt model by $5,000 in the United States. The move reflects the great strides the company has made in reducing costs as it gains experience with electric vehicles and their components. The Chevrolet Volt is one of the world’s first electric vehicle with extend range capability. Itfeatures a 16-kWh lithium battery that enables zero-emission electric driving of up to 80 kilometers on a full charge. Once the battery's energy supply has been used up, an on-board generator seamlessly kicks in and extends the car's total range beyond 500 kilometers. Source: Chevroleteurope
