Missed the action at Goodwood? Here’s your second chance. With more than 1,000 drivers competing in 22 races over 15 categories, the 2011 Silverstone Classic this weekend promises to live up to its claim to being “the world's biggest classic racing festival”. Apart from 124 Grand Prix cars spanning more than half a century, from a 1928 Bugatti T35B to more recent ones from the early Eighties, the show will feature an amazing line-up of classic sportscars, GTs and saloons, altogether worth more than a mindboggling Dh 1.78 billion (£300 million). But to us, the highlight of the event is the E-type Challenge, which will see 50 of these eternal beauties competing in a single race. And if that isn’t enough to have the whole place awash in a sea of drool, there will be 1,000 – yes, a thousand – E-types parading as part of the model’s 50th birthday party. Another attraction will be the 30-car race that will see Eighties Le Mans Prototypes from Porsche, Mercedes, Nissan, Lancia and Jaguar fighting it out. Tickets for the event which runs from July 22 to 24, are available at the official event website www.silverstoneclassic.com.
