US automaker Ford on Friday recalled 850,000 cars
and sport utility vehicles because of a possible defect with the
airbags in the cars, dpa reported.
Ford said the defect could cause the airbags to fail to open in a
crash.
The models being recalled are 2013 and 2014 C-MAX, Fusion, Escape and
Lincoln MKZ vehicles sold in North America, Ford said in a press
release.
The problem is with a part called the restraints control module,
which could short circuit, causing the airbag warning indicator to
light up.
'Depending on the location of the short circuit, the deployable
restraint systems ... may not function as intended in the event of a
crash, increasing the risk of injury,' Ford said.
