VIENNA - Arabstoday

One thing was missing from our 2009 drive of the KTM X-Bow: lunacy. The thing has no bodywork, no windscreen, no doors, 240bhp, and weighs 700kg, yet somehow it’s all very civilised. Even the Audi-sourced 2.0-litre turbo engine’s exhaust note is muted, suggesting good manners. Oh, and there is a hint of understeer… But all that is about to change with KTM’s launch of the X-Bow R, which is basically a X-Bow with an attitude problem. Now the Austrian company’s car product range includes three models, and the R takes the throne with a carbon monocoque chassis and the same 2.0-litre TFSI motor, this time tuned to deliver 300bhp and 400Nm of torque. There is also a new mechanical limited slip differential which should dial out some of that pesky understeer, as well as a smooth underbody for aerodynamics, adjustable pedals, sportier suspension settings, four-point harnesses, and special paint. X-Bow Arrrgh - we like it.
