Speaking to Auto Express, company owner Carlos Mastretta said that a right-hand-drive prototype of its MXT sportscar has already been built, and that he is confident of launching the car in the UK early in 2012. “I am so excited about this,” said Mastretta. “British sports cars really inspire me. The car has been built for real driving enthusiasts, there are no electronic aids, like traction control. The car is very light, very quick and handles really well.” The MXT is currently being evaluated by the Vehicle Type Approval Agency (VCA) at Millbrook and by the Department for Transport for low-volume type approval, which would allow the car to go on sale here in small numbers. Powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine sourced from Ford, the car will sprint from 0-60mph in less than six seconds and has a top speed of 140mph. At 3,900mm long and 1,750mm wide, the MXT is about the same size as a Lotus Elise, and is relatively well equipped, with air conditioning and a leather trimmed interior. Lifestyle Automotive, which specialises in selling unusual sportscars has been signed up to sell and distribute the cars.
