Many Mitsubishi vehicles have been recalled in China due to defective alternator belts, China's top quality watchdog said Thursday.
The recall involves 87,604 vehicles, including some Lancer and Outlander models manufactured between 2007 and 2011, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.
The alternator drive belts in the affected vehicles were made of substandard material, which may lead to tilt and wear of the belt pulley. After continuous use, the belts may fall off, the statement said.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales (China) Co. and Fujian-based Southeast Motor, Mitsubishi's Chinese partner, will replace the parts free of charge.
