Anniversary with Shanghai Volkswagen: 10,000,000th vehicle produced since 1983 – 10% of which are ŠKODA models. ŠKODA AUTO is on the path of success in China. Since the Czechs arrived on the Chinese market six years ago, more than a million ŠKODAs have rolled off the production lines at the Shanghai Volkswagen’s (SVW) plant – ŠKODA’s production partner. ŠKODA has had a share of around 10% of a total 10,000,000 cars produced there since 1983. In the coming years, ŠKODA intends to further increase their sales in China. For this, the car maker is doubling the range of products manufactured in the country and gained new production capacity. “ŠKODA cars are arriving in China,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “We have hit the million mark with only three models sold in the country. With the expansion of our product range and increased capacity, we will continue to grow in China in the coming years.” The new SVW plant in Ningbo, Southern China took on the production at the end of October. The first model to roll off the production line was the ŠKODA Superb. ŠKODA currently produces five models in partnership with Shanghai Volkswagen; alongside the Superb in Ningbo, the ŠKODA Fabia, Rapid, Octavia and Yeti are produced at the SVW plants in Anting und Yizheng. In 2014, the new ŠKODA Octavia and Rapid Spaceback are to follow. Since their market launch in 2007, ŠKODA has produced over 1,000,000 vehicles for China in partnership with SVW. “SVW is a reliable and competent partner for ŠKODA. The evidence for this successful collaboration is the number of over one million cars produced in only six years. This joint success story we will continue,” says Winfried Vahland. Since 2010, China has been ŠKODA’s strongest individual market. In 2012, the brand achieved a new sales record with 235,700 vehicles being sold in China. In 2013 so far, 199,200 Chinese customers have opted for a ŠKODA (January to October 2013). This corresponds to about a quarter of the brand’s worldwide deliveries. Source: ŠKODA
