Mitsubishi's latest attempt to improve overall global sales largely depends on the all-new Outlander For those who thought that Mitsubishi was on its way out, the Japanese automaker would very much like to remind us that that simply not true. While they've discontinued once popular models such as the Eclipse, they're still pressing forth with an all-new Outlander. In fact, the Outlander Sport has been a solid seller for the brand while the larger Outlander has managed to hold its own for the past few years (it received a refresh back in 2010).For 2013, this all-new Outlander will be making its way to showrooms and Mitsubishi is anxious to tell us that the CUV is truly new from the ground up.This new mid-size CUV features the automaker's new design language and is meant to comply with the times - "a strategic and innovative premium vehicle, developed around a versatile global platform." Power comes courtesy from either 2.0-liter gasoline four-banger or a 2.2-liter clean diesel, both of which can be mated to an all-new automatic slushbox or a new CVT.Mitsubishi also cut overall weight through optimization of the body structure and further use of high-tensile strength steel pressings. Along with many new advanced safety features, Mitsubishi is clearly gunning for buyers who normally look at such models like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.Official pricing nor exact time of launch has been released, but if there's any mainstream model (read: not the i-MiEV) that help the struggling automaker's overall sales, especially in North America, it's the new Outlander.
