State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani congratulated journalists on World Press Freedom Day which is marked on May 3.
In a letter to President of Jordan Press Association (JPA) Tareq Momani and members of the Association's council, the minister stressed the government's commitment and keenness to implement the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to create a national media that is based on freedom and responsibility and is line with the Kingdom's comprehensive reform process.
"This occasion provides an opportunity to highlight progress that have been made to develop the media sector through creating a relevant environment that keeps a balance between freedom and responsibility and supports the media profession," he added.
Momani said that the government have worked over the past five years with concerned agencies to develop a national media system, noting that it was also committed to implementing content of the Jordanian media strategy.
The government, he added, will continue to modernize legislations in partnership and coordination with various concerned bodies including the JPA.
