The Luxor prosecution on Sunday decided to send cell phones that were in possession of the culprits of a terrorist attack near Karnak Temple on Wednesday to the department of technical assistance of the interior ministry in Cairo.
The move was taken to identify and extract the contents (contacts, logs and messages) of the phones and their SIMs.
The phones' data may give a hand to prosecutors while probing the attack, said a judicial source.
Police on Wednesday managed to prevent three gunmen from entering the grounds of the ancient Egyptian Karnak temple, one of the top tourist destinations in the south of the country.
Two attackers were killed when a bomb carried by one of them detonated.
The other assailant was injured by a gunshot to the head.
