Dozens of people have protested outside Egypt’s Prosecutor General offices in Cairo to demand the annulment of an arrest warrant against controversial broadcaster Tawfik Okasha. The divisive host is mired in a legal battle with his ex-wife Reda el-Kerdawi, who accuses him of defamation. Demonstrations carried banners and chanted in favour of Okasha, the police and the army, also declaring their opposition to Egypt’s ruling Muslim Brotherhood. Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah previously rejected a request by Okasha’s lawyer to cancel his arrest warrant. The media personality faces six months in prison for alleged defamation.
