Maine - UPI

Television news co-anchors Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio quit their jobs live on the evening broadcast in Bangor, Maine, to protest management policies. The pair announced their resignations Tuesday, citing differences with management regarding editorial practices and treatment of staff as the reasons, the Bangor [Maine] Daily News said. "I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasn't able to do that," said Consiglio. Mike Palmer, WVII/WFVX vice president and general manager, told the newspaper the on-air resignations were "unfortunate, but not unexpected." "We'll hire experienced people to fill these positions sooner rather than later," Palmer said.
