New Delhi - Arabstoday

Satyamev Jayate, the new TV show from Bollywood star Aamir Khan, has sparked positive debate across social networks after tackling the harsh reality of female foeticide in its opening programme today. The 13-part talk show, which will premiere tonight in the Gulf on Star Plus, is rumoured to be the most expensive TV series to ever be made in India. Meaning 'Truth Alone Prevails' in English, it is also the first entertainment show to be aired simultaneously on both pay TV (across the Star India network) and by the public broadcaster Doordarshan, reaching speakers of eight Indian languages along the way. Prior the programme's launch, actor Khan told media: "Over the last few years I have often been approached with various television shows. But none of those that were offered to me, really excited me. I work only if I'm excited about it." "What excites me about television is its power and reach, its enormous potential to connect with people. And this is what I want to use. I want it to be an enriching experience, for me and for my audience." Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Uday Shankar, chief executive officer added: "Satyameva Jayate is one of the biggest leaps that we would have taken in last many years. With this show we are trying to establish a very eclectic, contemporary definition of what entertainment content can be. "We should be seen as a default house for traditional stuff like drama, singing and dancing. The society needs to be reflected adequately and you need to capture that through your creativity, and that's what Satyameva Jayate is set to do." Star Plus will repeat each hour and a half episode of Sayameva Jayate at 10.30am on Fridays across the UAE. In India it airs every Sunday at 11am.
