British heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch can now be seen in a new 2 1/2-minute trailer celebrating the best of BBC Drama -- past, present and future.
The Sherlock and The Hollow Crown II star reads William Shakespeare's monologue "All the World's a Stage" from As You Like It, while clips from the network's various small-screen triumphs roll by.
"It's a privilege to premiere a new trailer tonight that celebrates BBC Drama. Who better than Benedict Cumberbatch to narrate this special film that showcases the BBC's unique role in nurturing talent and its powerful storytelling from the past, present and future?" Ben Stephenson, controller for BBC Drama Commissioning, said in a statement Tuesday.
Upcoming dramas previewed in the video include Wolf Hall starring Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis and Claire Foy; The Casual Vacancy, an adaptation of J.K. Rowling's novel; Roald Dahl's Esio Trot starring Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman; and The Missing starring James Nesbitt.
Among the dramas from the past featured in the clip are The Singing Detective, House of Cards, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, This Life, Pride and Prejudice, Criminal Justice, Small Island, Spooks and Life on Mars.
Nods were also made in the trailer to the network's current hits Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, Sherlock and Luther.
