Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said on Meet the Press that he believes NSA surveillance has crossed a line, and he thinks even his own email has been monitored. "That has been extremely liberalized and abused by I think our own intelligence agencies," said Carter on NSA monitoring of communications. "As a matter of fact, you know I have felt that my own communications were probably monitored." Carter also said that when he wanted to communicate with a foreign leader, he never emailed or called, but wrote a letter, sealed, and mailed it through the postal service. This is not the first time that Carter has criticized administrations or U.S. policy. He has previously criticized the U.S. use of drones for targeted assassinations, growing inequality, and financial corruption in elections. Carter has the earliest presidency among the five surviving U.S. presidents.
