Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai's twitter account has reached over four million followers, making him one of the most followed leaders globally on the social networking site, while the total number of his followers on all other forms of social media is about 8.5 million.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's account has come second globally in a study issued by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for 2014 in his ability to reach the largest number of his people.
On the occasion, Sheikh Mohammed took to twitter to thank his followers saying he is proud of them all, and appreciates their views, suggestions and ideas, which he said have influenced the development process, and through them, they also became partners in the achievements.
The Ruler of Dubai added that social networking can be an important means for development, knowledge, and innovation, and when used positively can motivate people towards progress, and stir minds and hearts towards unity and coalition, saying, "We shall always focus on using social media channels for the good of mankind, for collaboration, enlightenment, and as a source of information."
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said that many community and humanitarian initiatives have been launched from his twitter page and were successful because of the large interaction of followers, promising that his twitter feed will remain a permanent platform on which to present ideas, themes and initiatives, from which people can benefit, disseminating good in the community.
The study revealed that the majority of Sheikh Mohammed's twitter followers are from the GCC, closely followed by Egypt, the US, and the UK.
