Thai police said Saturday they had arrested 3,771 gambling suspects, including 236 alleged bookies, as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling, which has risen dramatically during the World Cup, a report said.
About 1.9 million baht (60,000 dollars) in cash and 29 million baht in bet tickets were seized by Thai National Police between June 9 and July 3, Nation Multimedia reported.
The police have asked the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to block 1,791 gambling websites. So far 1,227 websites have been banned, dpa reported.
