A news conference was held, on Tuesday in Tunis, to shed light on major axes of the co-operation convention binding the Education Ministry and the Arab Institute for Human Rights during the 2011-2015 period. The convention provides for the dissemination of the culture of human rights and its integration in curricula. It seeks to boost the role of schools in this area and make available to teachers and pupils the relevant scientific and methodological material. "The new situation in Tunisia presently allows for developing these programmes, with the assistance from the Arab Institute for Human Rights, and for holding joint activities," said Education Minister Taieb Baccouche. He added that these programmes will be taken into consideration when reviewing textbooks in 2013-2014. The two sides also pledged to hold training sessions in human rights culture and citizenship, create specialised libraries and publish relevant researches. The Arab Institute for Human Rights seeks to develop the education sector and disseminate the culture of human rights in the Arab world, with assistance from experts and co-operation of international organisations, said chairman of the Institute Abdelbasset Hassen.
