The number of nursery students enrolled in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) schools has seen a jump of over 4,000 compared to last year, an official said Saturday. "Total number of students in nursery classes has witnessed an increase of over 4,000, increasing the total number to 49,419 this year. The number of boys is 22,259, while there are 27,160 girls studying in MCD schools,” Mahendra Nagpal, chairman of the education committee of the MCD, told reporters here. The civic agency attributes the turnout to mid-day meals where students are provided free lunch, upgrade of school infrastructure, free books, notebooks, school bags, dresses, shoes, and water bottles, among other facilities. MCD soon plans to distribute free Akash tablet computers to Class 4 students. "MCD schools do not lag behind the private schools in any respect. The civic body is going to distribute free Akash tablet computers to its students of Class 4 free of cost and the project costs around Rs.45 crore,” Nagpal added. (IANS)
